Should i lie and try get an extension on essay in final year of university?
I personally don’t have a problem with you getting an extension on moral grounds – it’s only now (in my last year of uni) that I realise quite how many people do ask for them. The last essay, around 90% had an extension – as if they’ve all been suddenly struck down with sickness or family problems! So go for it. However, you may want to look in your student handbook at the kind of extensions they award. At my uni, you can get a week’s extension for anything – you don’t even need a doctor’s note. For any longer than that, though, it is very, very tough. You need medical certification of a serious illness (i.e. not a virus or stomach bug), or a major family emergency or tragedy such as death in the family. They also expect you to plan your time well in advance. In all honesty, I don’t think you’ll get an extension for as long as you want it unless your uni’s policies are very different, particularly as the essay isn’t due in for another month and your ‘illness’ only lasted a few days.
