Don’t worry about getting her spayed. Unless you intend to breed from her, this is the best thing you can do for her – the more seasons she’s allowed to have, the greater the risk she could develop mammary or uterine cancer later on, and she will always run the risk of picking up a uterine infection if she stays entire. Plus if she’s spayed, you won’t have to confine her every 6 months or so! There is always a risk every time a dog goes under a general anaesthetic. And there is a higher risk if you get her spayed while in season or coming up to her season (so do it mid-way between her seasons, say around 2/3 months from the previous one). However, this is a routine surgery, the vets will do pre-op checks (to make sure any risk to her is minimal) and believe me, the risks of her picking up the above conditions are far, far higher.
