One camera body is seldom/never worth it alone to do a complete switch. Why? Because chances are, if say Nikon comes out with something really innovative, Canon will follow suite pretty quickly and visa-versa. The only way it would be worth it is if the company gave you a direct trade up lens for lens, body for body. If you are absolutely unhappy with all the Canon system, then it would be worth it (sanity wise, not monetary wise) to switch to Nikon. The Canon 45 point auto-focus system is nice, so I bet the 51 point is equally as nice, however, is it worth the premium of switching? I really doubt it. The 5D is due to be upgraded soon, and since Nikon put a 51 point auto-focus system in the D300, I wouldn’t put it past Canon to put their 45 point autofocus system in the next 5D (5D mkII, 3D, 7D, whatever they call it). Sure the next 5D will (most certainly) cost almost twice as much as a D300, but you can use the difference in not having to buy new lenses to maybe justify it some. The
