The main advantage of a tank is that once the tank gets pressure built up high enough in it, your compressor motor will turn off, thus giving it a longer life. Also, some of the cheaper constant running air compressors (without a tank) make cause your air flow to surge instead of blow smoothly. Drawback to the tank one though, is that they seem to be a bit louder, and bigger in size; which is an important consideration when considering your workspace. You should have a regulator valve on your compressor, that’s how you adjust your PSI. I’ve used both tanked and untanked compressors. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Right now I’m using a Tanmiya tankless compressor, and really like it. It’s compact, quiet, and haven’t had any trouble with my airflow.
