Yes you should get a tetanus shot. Even if you have had one in the past 10 years you will need a booster because this injury will “use up” (for lack of a better term) some of the protection afforded by the previous shot. Tetanus is not just rampant and a wound that bleeds good washes itself out, but the chance is still there. My father got tetanus as a child and almost died from “lockjaw” as they called it back then, so I would say err on the side of safety and get the shot – it is very little pain compared with lockjaw. Also, this is something that most any health department offers at a very cheap rate (like $4 around here).
