Should I finish school before Joining the Canadian Army ( CF )?
Any soldier will tell you to stay in school, or even work towards tertiary education before joining the military. From what I gather, entry into the Canadian Forces is highly selective and competitive in all areas, unlike other military forces in the world. So even though you may have the minimum education requirements, they’re not going to look kindly to it when more qualified applicants are readily available. Wanting to drop out of school to join the Army does not reflect well – it demonstrates a lack of maturity, less determination and very little planning for your future. Suppose you get in, find you don’t like it or otherwise don’t want to serve for decades? How long you decide to stay in the forces can’t be determined until you actually get in and live the lifestyle – the average military career only lasts 4-5 years. IMO – finish that paltry last year of school. Breezing through Year 12 was definitely much easier than the mere weeks of misery I spent doing recruit training shortl
