Should I eat a low carb diet to lose weight?
While you should eat minimal amounts of sugars and other highly processed carbohydrates, you should still be eating an adequate amount of complex carbohydrates. Low carb diets work because they are lowering your total caloric intake substantially. But it’s not only body fat that you’re losing. Because you aren’t eating any carbohydrates, you are missing out on your main source of energy. This means your body will start breaking down it’s own muscle to convert that protein into glycogen. Breaking down your muscle for fuel is no good. You need to eat good complex carbohydrates from sources like oatmeal, brown rice, fruits, vegetables, and other whole-grain foods.
