Should I drop Derek Lee for James Loney?
No one will give you much for either Lee or Pena right now. I would definitely keep Lee though, and dump Pena. If you need AVG, Pena will kill you all season… his potential for 30+ HR is not worth his potential to hit .220. Lee has at least hit over .270 a few times in his career… I’m not sure Pena has ever done that more than once. Dump Pena, and pick up Loney (if your primary need is AVG) or Laroche (if your primary need is power). You won’t miss Pena one bit with either of those guys in his place. Loney will likely struggle to break 20 HR, but he’ll hit close to .300. Laroche is valuable outside of April, and has a much better shot to hit 30+ HR but will likely hit .270-.280. I actually like Laroche more, as he’s a GREAT hitter in the second-half… but he won’t give you quite as much help in AVG as Loney would.
