The Earth and Environmental Science Department at Acadia offers three degrees, the B.Sc. in Geology, the B.Sc. in Environmental Geoscience, and the B.Sc. in Environmental Science. The first two of these degrees lead to professional registration in Nova Scotia. The differences between them don’t appear until the second or third year of the program – in B.Sc. (Geology) you do more in the study of igneous and metamorphic rocks, plate tectonics, and economic geology; in environmental geoscience you do more in the study of geochemistry, geophysics and environmental science. Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary program that gives students an opportunity to develop a broad-based understanding of our environment through the study of a number of disciplines. The Environmental Science program also leads to a BSc degree, and is an excellent general science program in the natural sciences.
