Should I contour the job in Construction Topo?
Sitework Engineering does not need the contours created by Construction Topo. It can create a 3-dimensional model from the break lines only. Plus, when you add contours to a construction topo site, you may run out of points in the job since Construction Topo puts a point every 1 on every contour. This distance can be adjusted, but the points still add up fast. The other reason for not contouring is that the break lines actually provide more information if the site has peaks or valleys. This is illustrated below. If you created the contours on the site above, they are created at 1 intervals. You would get the 254, 255 and 256 contours but miss the top peak point at 256.9, thereby losing nine-tenths of a foot off the top of the peak. If you send the break lines, they would pick up the top point. If you are going to contour the site, press the ENTER key after contouring so all the break lines display on the screen again.
