Should I choose a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.)?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question.  It is strictly a matter of opinion, and I can guarantee that there are many different opinions about which degree to choose and why to choose it.  I will humbly give you my opinion for your consideration.

It depends on your goal.  A BA requires more humanities courses than a BS in general.  At the universities I attended, competence of a foreign language was required for a BA as well.  The exact requirements depend on what school you attend, but I think that everyone should be bilingual in our society.  Currently, Spanish, Japanese, or Mandarin Chinese are the most helpful foreign languages for Americans.

I think that a well rounded education is beneficial to being more human and a better citizen of your country and the world.  Studying history, English writing and literature, a foreign language, philosophy, economics, chemistry, physics, and biology is the basis of any good education.  Taking these courses at most universities and colleges would qualify one for a BA degree regardless of one’s major field of study.

I hope this is helpful and at least provides you with a starting point for your investigation, thought, and decision.
