Should I buy fry/juvies or adult cichlids?
Depending on what your goal is for your cichlids, will determine what size you want to buy them at. If you are interested in breeding your fish, you should consider young fish. We suggest purchasing at least six juvenile fish and grow them up together so that natural pair bonds will develop. The reason you want to buy this amount or more is to ensure that you are getting enough of each sex to breed. Most cichlids, at the young age are unable to be sexed and It would really be terrible if you take all the time to grow them out and not have any males!!! Rule of thumb is to have 3 females for every male. If you are looking to have a stocked tank with lots of colorful species, it is best to go with adult sized cichlids. At the larger size they may be “done” breeding. This will help avoid any unwanted aggressive behavior and fry. In addition to the adults already being in full color. Although most Mbuna’s are in full color at juvenile size, Aulonocaras on the other hand do not full color up
