Should I be concerned about whisker growth with Rectrons 100% Sn finish?
No, however, whisker growth can be a concern on low grade, untested plating processes. Rectron is now entering our 5th year of full production with 100% Matte-Sn plated devices without any reported whisker growth failures. Our select choices of the proper base materials, chemical treatments, plating thickness, and pre-conditioned using a high temperature bake of 150◦C for 20 minutes have eliminated problems associated with whisker growth from our products.
