Should I avoid jobs in the Financial Services sector?

I think a lot of FS job listings appear during recessions because the companies know there’s a larger pool of potential talent who are not working. Furthermore, the fact that they’re correct in this assumption also means there’s a larger pool of the “hungry” – those willing and motivated to “really try hard to succeed.” Some will succeed in the FS jobs because they are motivated AND have sales talent and people skills. They would probably succeed in Sales without a recession, but would probably already be employed. Most importantly, the initial (probationary) period in FS jobs is often low-pay or no-pay. That’s why they can afford to hire during recession in the first place. I’d say if you’re really good and motivated, you may do well in Financial Services, even during recession. But, then again, you probably wouldn’t have been out of work in the first place. Who knows? Only you know the answer to THAT quandary!
