Should I ask my pupils to complete the optional Patterns Test section when they take the Yellis Baseline Test?
The Pattern Tests are designed to be, as far as possible, non-verbal, curriculum-free, culture-fair tests. They are an optional, free of charge, component of the Yellis Test. They consist of Matching questions (4 minutes allowed) and Reflections & Rotations questions (4 minutes allowed). In analyses of GCSE results, we generally find that the addition of the Pattern Test scores to the Maths and Vocabulary scores does not noticeably improve the accuracy of our GCSE predictions, so the Pattern Tests will currently remain an optional part of the Yellis Test. Pattern Test scores will still be included in the feedback to schools, as an extra piece of pupil information, but they will make no contribution to the overall Yellis Test Score.
