Should I allow my dog to have atleast one litter before getting her spayed?
I believe that dogs should earn their championship before they are ever bred to ensure they best represent the breed standard. I don’t believe in breeding unless they are truely being bred to improve the breed. That being said, the parents need to be tested and successful in either hunting trials, the show ring, or obedience trials. If you intend to breed her, please make sure that you have owners lined up for the pups ahead of time. Don’t overcharge them if you can’t supply the puppy owners with a written pedigree. Also, be responsible and be willing to allow the puppy owners to return the dogs to you if they don’t work out in their new homes. We don’t need any more dogs in shelters. Be prepared to take care of every puppy in the litter for the rest of its life if it does not find a forever owner. This is the key characteristic of responsible dog breeders.
