Obviously – more education is better than less and, during high school years, teens are (supposed to be) learning better study habits and social skills as well as considering various career options. High school is the place where young people should be rapidly progressing on the stepping stones to emotional maturity – self-discipline, self-control, time-management, decision-making, considering consequences of choices and actions, accepting responsibility, being accountable, learning from experiences, developing a stable personality, learning to view things in perspective (plus others which, presently, escape me). Due to the “lagging behind” of the American educational system, during the past 40 years, (thanks to women’s lib), it’s my opinion high school should be of five years’ duration and the legal age of adulthood should be 20 instead of 18 as, presently, there would be no way to force an 18-19 year-old to remain in high school for an additional year of education.
