Should Heart of darkness be taught in schools?

Whether a topic is racist or not should not be a factor for eliminating a topic; even if there is racism, it can be used as a model for explaining ideas and worldviews. Some might argue that Heart of Darkness has racist elements, but in many ways it is an important book. Some have argued that because of the use of some language that is used in Twain’s _The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn_ that it should not be taught, however often I feel these arguments miss the point. Sometimes we need to look at cold hard historical realities, if we do not wish to repeat these mistakes. Also, if we are to eliminate everything that might offend someone, we may find that education has been reduced to the intellectual content of a Hallmark card.
