Should grave-robbing be punishable by death?

Most states have laws covering desecration of a grave site and prosecute them vigorously. I don’t think the death penalty is appropriate for grave robbing. I do wonder why anyone would bury anything of any real value with someone though. It makes no sense to me to do that.
