Should genetically engineered food products require special labels? Why?
No. Or rather, only if they have a known health hazard. But this might apply to all foods. Notice that most food containers don’t tell you that you can become obese by eating the food inside. Peanut butter jars don’t tell you that you are in danger if you have a peanut allergy. Milk bottles don’t tell you not to drink the contents if you have lactose intolerance. Keep in mind that domesticated food products, whether they are plants or animals, are genetically modified by selective breeding. And this has been true since the plants and animals were domesticated. The entire issue about genetically engineered food is based on the general fear that many people have about science. They don’t even recognize that selective breeding is genetic modification.
