Should Extreme Makeover Home Edition be canceled?
There are more than just the one who are struggling. And I think the show is partially responsible for some of it. They tear down the family’s home which is usually a modest one and then give them what is essentially a mansion, increasing their maintenance costs, their taxes not to mention those god awful themed bedrooms for the kids that are going to have to be ripped out at some point when the kids get older. Granted there is at least one case where the homeowner took out a mortgage against the house, blew the money and then got another mortgage and blew that money and is now crying hardship. But the show could try building realistic, manageable and functional homes that the families can actually afford to maintain when the cameras and spotlights are gone. In respons to Su-Nami – quite often the problems with the original homes are so extensive, it would be cheaper (and sometimes safer) to tear them down and start over again.
