Should Executive MBA Programs Waive GMAT Requirement?
A BusinessWeek report finds that only 13 of the top 25 Business schools in the country are controversially waiving the GMAT as a requirement for applicants to their executive MBA programs. EMBA programs tend to draw applicants with an average age of 37 and who have 14 years of working experience. The waiver relieves them from having to recall college-level math and general quantitative skills that are heavy in the GMATs. Advocates of the waiver say that the candidate’s academic records and work history give a better gage of their determination, leadership and drive, factors seen as critical in the application process. While some schools are cutting the GMAT from the application process, others are selectively waiving it, and some are finding other venues to ensure their students will have the crucial quantitative skills-previously gauged by the GMAT-if accepted to their program. No. 1 ranked Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management do not require their applicants to take
