Should everyone be on the organ donation list?

0

Dear Alice Thank you for your question. I think you need to be consistent in your argument and compare donors and recipients. I think everyone should be on the donor list and it should be an opt out rather than an opt in system. Anyone who chooses not to be a donor considers it more important that their organs will rot or be burnt after their death. This prevents potential recipients from having potentially life-saving organs. Personally, I believe that anyone who deliberately chooses not to be a donor should also choose not to be a recipient. If their family cries out, “Our relative will die if noone donates an organ” and nobody in the family is an organ donor, I find this position to be hypocritical. It amounts to: “People should be forced to give me their organs after they die, but I am not prepared to give my organs to help others.” I feel that the “If you’re a donor, you can be a recipient. If you decide not to be a donor, you can’t be a recipient” is the only consistent argument.
