Should employers monitor employees internet usage?

A company is legally liable for anything that’s found on their computers. If any employee wants to do personal activities on their own personal time, then go use your laptop out in the parking lot, during a personal break. Don’t take business property home, and don’t take personal property to work. So, a business has great reasons to make sure their computers are used appropriately. Not to spy on every little detail, but just enough to make sure everything stays professional. There is also the matter of industrial espionage. I’ve known a few people who were sending email and IM messages directly to a competitor. Sometimes, a company must reasonably protect itself from an occasional malicious employee.
