One of the dumbest mistakes that I made was to dive without an underwater timing device. It never occurred to me that I needed a dive watch or computer because I never used one in my open water course. Now that I am a scuba instructor, I see many recreational divers making the same mistake. Why should each diver carry his own timing device? During the open water course, divers learn that dive planning is essential for safe diving. However, the best dive plan is useless if the diver has no means to monitor how long he spends underwater.
