Should contraceptives be available in high schools?
This lib’ral says “NO”. Some contraceptives are hormones. Hormones have very strong effects on the human body and should be dispensed and monitored by a doctor who has a relationship with the patient and can be reached and consulted if something goes wrong. Students need to be made aware of the dangers of exogenous (not produced by the body) hormone use I think schools should be able to refer students to clinics where they can get the counseling, instruction, etc. they need for a total awareness of what contraception does and what it doesn’t do, what types of contraception are available and the odds of getting pregnant for each one. The clinician/doctor seeing the student will also be able to gage the student’s readiness for sex and their psychological disposition (neediness) and refer them for counseling, if necessary.
