Should baseballs Cleveland Indians change their “red man” MLB team logo?
The Cleveland Indians, aka the Tribe, have used a red man logo despite the outcry of many groups to change it. The logo itself is something the Indians are slowly omitting on their uniforms and clothing. They now have an alternate logo, a stylized “I” and also a sleeveless jersey which is used on special occasions. They could make a bold and positive statement for the integrity of major league baseball by taking this golden opportunity to change their name and logo to something just as traditional and representing the Ohio-Lake Erie region. The move would be hailed by all as the first step in eliminating stereotypes like the cursed red man logo. The argument has been made for years but nothing has been done by the Indians or major league baseball to correct this offensive display. Although the original intent of the logo was to honor a great native american ball player(Louis Sockalexis), most people just see the grinning indian face on the caps and uniforms.
