Should Bailed-Out Companies Hold Sweepstakes? Monday March 23, 2009 Forbes Magazine is reporting on a sweepstakes scandal surrounding Fifth Third Bank. The Cincinnati-based bank received a loan of over $3 billion from the US government to prevent it from going bankrupt. So come people are criticizing Fifth Third for running a sweepstakes at the end of the year that gave away over $900,000 in prizes. Fifth Third denies wasting any bailout money. They say that the sweepstakes was a legitimate advertising method that actually generated more traffic to their website than anticipated. The Forbes article quotes a Fifth Third spokeswoman as saying, “”If we had spent the same dollars on radio, TV and newspapers ads, nobody would be questioning it. And from our standpoint, it was a much more effective approach.” So what do you think? Vote in my quick poll, and click on the “Comments” link below to share more thoughts. Relate
