Should Australia be a republic or remain as a constitutional monarchy? Why?

0

It’s a question for the citizens of Australia to resolve amongst themselves, having weighed up the pros and cons of both sides and having examined what the alternatives would be. Ironically, the more we travel and become a global village, having a head of state the opposite side of the world seems less of a difficulty than it did say a hundred years ago. Logistically, it makes more sense now than it did in the past as the opportunity for involvement of the monarch is greater than it ever has been. Equally, in a world of globalization, supportive contact with another nation is surely a good thing? However, if Oz were to abandon constitutional monarchy, what option would represent an improvement, and why? To warrant the change would surely require that an improvement be made. So, by what criteria would you judge the ‘best’ constitutional arrangement for a nation? Is it that citizens have increased running in their daily affairs? Because if so, a republic doesn’t necessarily provide that.
