It resulted in 4 wars, the War of 1812 when we pushed into British occupied territory and opened the door to Oregon and Washington, the Mexican War which brought us the South West stretching from Texas through California, the Civil War as we determined whether the new territories eould become Slave States or Free States and the Spanish American War which brought us Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and an interest in the far east leading to the annexation of Hawaii to secure our trade routes. We also issued the Monroe Doctrine which when enforced with British Help stated that Europe was not to interfere in the development of the newly forming governments in both Americas, in a reverse way hinted that America was not to meddle in other spheres not in our immediate backyard.
