Should alcohol and cigarettes be banned once and for all as we the taxpayer cant afford nhs budget?
No. America introduced prohibition on alcohol – and look what happened, it drove it underground. Norway and the Scandinavian countries introduced extremely high taxes on alcohol to try to curb their extremely high rate of alcoholism (whch was mainly due to the SAD syndrome ) such that now to buy a pint of lager there cost twice it is in Ireland 9 – 10 euro a pint. What do they do – they brew their own……..so no revenue to the state. Look, you have to adopt the Dutch attitude tolerance in measure, restrictions. if found out on the street with a pint or a cigarette in your hand you get fined heftily. Hit them in the pocket, that is the only way to curb enthusiasm. Edit: Thank you Proud to be an Englishman, thumbs up from me I have been to Holland on many occasions and for the life of me cannot understand why other countries do not adopt their attitude towards drink, drugs and prostitution.
