I do not understand why from day one Cook was marked as “future England Captain” and given the vice captaincy. If it is a full tour then there should be a full team, with the exception of injuries, though it may be a good chance to test new players. Bowlers are often rhythm players and need to play to find their form, so a warm up series is often good for them, some batsmen are the same, Peterson has still not back to his best after injury. (and yes he is a great batsman, but even the greats have dry spells.) Other players, like Collingwood, benefit from a rest. Personally, I don’t think they should even be playing Bangladesh, there should be a 2 tier test ‘league’ with the bottom place up for grabs perhaps every 2-3 years to check consistency of standards before promotion.
