Should Alan Duncan stay in the Shadow cabinet?
All I can say is that is simply doesn’t matter. It proves that many politicians have no idea at all what it is like for a normal person working for their daily crust. This story reminded me of a politician (can’t remember the name just now) in the 70s or 80s who said that if people were feeling the pinch they should maybe only have 1 holiday a year instead of the normal 2 or 3. At the time there were people who had never had a holiday in their lives. The UK was a very poor country in the 70s and anyone who didn’t live back then probably wouldn’t understand just how insulting that comment was to millions. Seems that dipstick Duncan has about as much idea about how good life is for him compared with many millions of people. But then I think that’s the case for so many politicians that one more or less makes naff all difference.
Alan Duncan’s comment are ill timed and thoughtless, but nort entirely wrong. we do seem to have a wrong headed sense of what MPs do and the lives they live. The ‘expenses scandal’ actually highlighted how, for me, politics is played out in the UK, we do not value our MPs, and see them as something we can turn into jokes and jesters at every turn, we also see to always think that anyone can do the job better than the people we elect, in this sense everything that Alan Duncan has said has the ring of truth. The expenses scandal This is something that could have reared it’s ugly head anytime from 1983 onwards, the rules were berought in by the then PM as she, it was Mrs Thatcher, say this as a way of ‘increasing’ MPs pay by the back door. The fact that it happened in 2008 is not relly that much of a surprise, the reality that it was the Telegraph and not the Sun was even more telling. The whole world had gone into financial meltdown, not just the UK, but here we have an unpopular PM, Gor
Look back at the story. Duncan invited this idiot who dug his lawn up when his expenses were exposed,to have a social visit to the house of commons. Big mistake number one. This guy than leads him on about the expense saga, to which Duncan makes a silly off the cuff remark Mistake number two This invited idiot is in his glory because he thinks he is MI5 and records the stupid conversation knowing full well the media are going to love what he has provided. In truth if any one else had made these stupid remarks, nobody would have cared.
