Should adults be allowed to smack children?
I think the government quite rightly intervenes when there is routine abuse, and malicious physical assault of children, but in this case they have seen fit to trust parents to decide how best to raise, and on occasion to discipline their children, in a loving and secure environment. I agree with you about the common ground thing – minds are very unlikely to get changed regarding this issue.
