Should a government have its own private equity / venture capital fund like Temasek of Singapore?
If the government’s private equity group is staffed with experienced private equity professionals who have a compensation structure that aligns them with portfolio performance, the program could be successful and would definitely be cheaper than outsourcing the exposure to a consultant or gatekeeper. Singapore’s GIC investment team is an excellent local example.
