Should a cockatiels wings be clipped?
It depends on your situation. I clip my birds wings because they are flighted and it slows them down. Although my Cockatiel was clipped too young (we think) and scared me with how often she crashed. She obviously did not know how to fly right. So I clipped her feathers off and then gradually clipped less and less until I felt safe letting her have free reign of the apartment. Now I just snip the tips off of her flight feathers for safety and she barely notices me do it. The dove was clipped when I first got him because he was so fast a flier and he didn’t know the layout. Now he too is free to fly. Safety, not the convenience of the person, should be the priority. Sometimes being able to fly boosts a bird’s confidence (they feel safe) so it is worth it. Since you are careful, your bird is safe and having fun, I’d leave it be. Birds are healthier if they fly. I know my Cockatiel is much more confident.
