Should a boss be allowed to fire someone just because she does not like the workers personality?
Firing is not an option. As the others have said, try to have her transferred. If that wont work maybe spend some time outside of the office at lunch. She already knows you don’t like her personality because you’ve told her so. It’s not necessary to *continue* to tell her this. If you’ve told anyone else, that’s certainly not going to improve her personality–more likely humiliate her. Not a positive step in inspiring her to be less gloomy. You’re not helping yourself by being petty about who she is. She has to work with you knowing you don’t like her and obviously do not value the work she does–you wouldn’t be trying to fire her for something as petty as “she’s gloomy” otherwise. Most job sites advise people that if they feel their jobs are in danger that they point out their good, strong qualities and accomplishments. She’s having to remind you that she is a valuable employee. Not everyone fits into a cookie-cutter personality mold. She does the work, that’s a rare thing in itself t
