Should a 13 year old boy do weights?
A 13 year old boy should not be doing weights as such at his age. The reason being is that he is in the development stages of his body maturing and he should develop his body fully and only consider taking up weights around the age of 16. Regular exercise that is arobic in nature will help him to develop a toned body and not damage the muscles early. When he is fit and toned and wants to start lifting weights at 16 then he can, but he should start small and slowly and build up because he can over do it and actually prevent his muscles from developing. Also speaking with a family doctor, a physiotherapist and a sports instructure will give you good advice as to your size, weight, Body Mas Index and advise you how to develop a body to the size and shape you want without causing injury that can harm your 13 year old in later life.
