When memory foam is manufactured it develops a thin skin on its exterior. This skin is denser than the foam itself and doesn’t breathe well. It can be most closely compared to the skin that develops on the top of chocolate pudding when it cools in the refrigerator. The removal of this memory foam skin adds another process to our manufacturing system and therefore adds to our cost. Because of this increased cost, other manufacturers choose to leave this skin on the memory foam. In the memory foam industry, removal of this skin is called “Skiving.” Memory Foam Factory products are superior because we take the time to “skive” each and every one. This adds to the open-cell characteristics that exist naturally in high quality memory foam.
