SHOOTING WITH EYES OPEN OR CLOSED?
Q. Do most people shoot handguns with one or both eyes open? I see a lot of pictures with the shooters keeping both eyes open. I cannot seem to focus properly on the front sight unless I shut one eye. I have made some progress by turning my head slightly so that my big nose blocks one eye (while open.) This seems to clear up the image of the front sight that is only visible with one eye at that time. What do you guys/gals do? Why? A. #1. Shooting with both eyes open is desirable, because it allows for better equilibrium and, therefore, better balance. Several years back, the cornea of my dominant (right) eye was damaged and I have since been forced to make my left eye dominant, when shooting. It’s tough to shoot with both eyes open, because the right eye tries to take over. There are a few things you can do to help train one eye to take over.
