Shall i get a Diesel or petrol engine on the BMW 1series?
Diesel BMW’s are more expensive than their petrol cars, but a diesel performs better (quicker acceleration, higher top speed and much better economy) and will hold its value more than a petrol. The comments made by other people here include a number of errors. The following facts state reality rather than opinion: 1) Diesel engines last much longer than petrol engines (but if maintained properly, both will last over 300,000 miles!!) 2) Diesel is available at most (if not every) petrol station in Europe, I don’t know where you are or the availability of diesel in the USA 3) BMW diesel engines are as smooth as their petrol engines (expect for a few minutes from cold, when the diesel engine warms up, so not a real problem) One point that hasn’t been raised is servicing, which is more frequent on diesels, but if you’re buying new, they should come with servicing included for the first 4 years (in the UK at least!)
