Linux (all flavors) is notorious for incomplete device driver support and this is no more obvious than with wireless NICs and some video cards. See if HP has a Linux driver for the wireless NIC. If not, you’ll have to try the forums for whatever distro of Linux that you installed and see if anyone has either written a driver for your NIC or can walk you the process of using the Windows driver with NDISWrapper to get your NIC up and running. You won’t need the wireless management software. Linux comes with excellent wireless management capabilities built in but you will need to find the right driver first.
