Separation Anxiety in Cats – how long does it last?

0

When your other cat passed away, did your cat get a chance to see the dead body? Most likely not. Cats understand the concept of death very well…but they don’t understand someone just leaving. Usually when cats are allowed to see their dead friends, they’ll sniff them and understand…but if they don’t get a chance..they think their friend is hiding, lost, or left. Your cat is following you everywhere because she doesn’t want to lose you as well. Every situation is different, but usually when kittens are removed from their litter suddenly, the ones left behind ‘mourn’ for 2 weeks. Give extra attention to your kitty now that your other cat is gone. Also, try to avoid bringing another cat, at least for now. I’ve seen so many people with good intentions bring a kitten to brighten up their old cats mood only to backfire, and the kitten takes over the house. Give it the two weeks, and plenty of attention.
