So lets say that you believe the water is moving too fast to grow enough food or the pump is killing too much of the plankton and I add a true refugium above the tank to grow food and other species that aren’t suited to the main tank. I’ll move the water through here pretty slowly and gravity feed it back to the main tank. Now I have crystal clear water and yummy food for the Mandarins. Finally, the skimmer question comes up.
