An electric kettle heats water by converting electricity into heat via the element,that coil in the bottom of the jug.An induction hob uses the induction field to induce heat into any inductive metal in its induction field,that means all of the kettle bottom or if using a pan all of it,including any metal stirring utensils you are using in it.Regular electric appliances are reckoned to be around 45% efficient,induction is about 85% efficient.
