Stralsund is embedded in the picturesque landscape of the Baltic region in Northern Germany. The Hanseatic City of Stralsund not only has the excitement of a small city of 59,000 residents, but all the scenic pleasures that typify a modern Baltic maritime city and seaside resort. The Historic Center of Stralsund, surrounded by water, is in particular worth a visit. Together with the Historic Center of Wismar, it was recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. The city was founded in 1234 and has a rich historic background dating back about 800 years. Stralsund has a tradition of prosperity and commerce as a key part of the Hanseatic League’s network of partner cities, which dominated the trade in Northern Europe for centuries. The Old Market with the Town Hall, the St. Nicholas church and the proud mansions of its leading merchant citizens are witness to those rich ye
