S AND ANSWERS FROM DEBT COLLECTION WEBINAR April 2008 Q. If I am contacted about a family members location, am I obligated to provide that information?

A. The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act is silent with regard to this question however, you would not be doing the debtor any favors by not providing his/her contact information as the collector has alternate means of attempting to locate the debtor such as calling his/her place of employment, other family members, friends and neighbors in addition to the debtors place of employment. I am not aware of any law that requires you to provide this information so it will come down to what you are personally comfortable disclosing.
