Rumor in the PBM world says that “group number” will be required on ID cards by HIPAA. Does anyone know of any foundation to that rumor?

There is not a mandate for a group number on an id card. However, there is a health plan identifier NPRM that will be released that would set up an identifier for each health plan (not necessarily the group)- so it would behoove the payer to include their health plan id on their id cards.
