By necessity the codes used in the LAP3 and other agency framework agreements (AFAs) were developed before the outcomes of Agenda for Change were known. We had the benefit of the national role profiles. These have provided us with a set of job titles with associated pay bands that will be understood throughout the NHS. We have had discussions with PASA who recognise the enormous benefits of classifying agency bookings in the same way as in-house substantive and bank workers. We are working with them to develop new national codes for allied health professionals and health care scientists and they have agreed to review their nursing and midwifery codes at the appropriate time. In the interim we will map and communicate the relationships between the CCS and AFA codes. Our initial analysis of agency bookings suggests that comparatively few of the many AFA codes are being used and that the relationships are quite straightforward.
