Roadway Lighting – Who Does What?

The City of Chattanooga pays for the power, maintenance and new installations of all street lighting within the city limits. At present, there are approximately 50,000 streetlights in service. Traffic Engineering is responsible for the budget appropriations regarding street lighting and therefore authorizes all new installations, as well as issues repair orders. The Electric Power Board performs all new installations and maintenance, which in turn is charged to the streetlight budget. Reporting Roadway Lighting Malfunctions Malfunctioning or expired roadway lighting shall be reported to Electric Power Board by calling 756-2706. When reporting, it is helpful to identify the pole number that the light is on. The pole number may be found secured to the pole on a metal strip and will be either stamped into or clamped around the metal strip. If the pole number has been removed or is illegible it will be necessary to locate the streetlight by block number or intersection. Reporting the pole
